A full analysis of the Sutton Trust Report 'Educating the Highly Able' is available on the Gifted Phoenix Blog.

It concludes that the proposals contained in the Report would almost certainly reduce social mobility, because they would focus support exclusively on students identified as high attainers in end of Key Stage 2 tests.

Publication of the Sutton Trust Report 'Educating the Highly Able'

 

The Sutton Trust has published a new Report 'Educating the Highly Able' which reviews recent gifted education policy and practice in England and offers recommendations for the education of highly able learners.

The Report is accompanied by a Call for Proposals for pilots to be funded by the Sutton Trust. Outline proposals must be submited by 30 September 2012.

Draft GT Voice Policy Statement on the National Curriculum Review

The GT Voice Board has prepared a draft Policy Statement on the National Curriculum Review. It invites members to comment on the draft before it is finalised. Please use the 'draft policy statement' strand in the Forums to log any comments by Wednesday 4 July.

The draft statement calls on the Government to consult on arrangements to secure a qualifications, curriculum and reporting framework that supports and stretches high attainers.

Estyn Inspection Report on Gifted Education in Welsh Secondary Schools

 

On 26 June Estyn, the Welsh Education Inspectorate, published a highly critical Report: 'Supporting More Able and Talented Pupils in Secondary Schools'.

The Report opens with the statement that 'More able and talented pupils in Wales achieve less well in Wales than in England' [sic]
